How Wegter ERP and e-commerce modernized from AS/400 and Shopware to SAP Business One and BigCommerce

“At Wegter Brands we faced the challenge of getting new customers to order as quickly as possible. The process consisted of many manual steps, which made it unnecessarily time-consuming. Thanks to the Celigo integration by Teknuro, we were able to realize an optimal linkage between our webshop and our ERP system. As a result, new customers can now place their orders within one day.”

Wegter Brands is a Dutch family-owned company with a history dating back to 1916. For more than a century, the company has developed, produced, and distributed tableware and kitchenware brands for retail, hospitality, and professional partners.

The assortment consists of dinnerware, cutlery, glassware, cookware, and complete household packages. With a strong focus on quality, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth, Wegter Brands helps partners bring distinctive kitchen and table concepts to market.

Wegter Brands wanted to modernize its ERP, e-commerce, product data, and warehouse logistics landscape without disrupting daily operations.

The company migrated from AS/400 to SAP Business One and from Shopware to BigCommerce. Because critical business processes depended on the existing systems, the migration had to be phased. Customer data, orders, price information, product information, inventory, and fulfilment had to remain operational throughout the transition.

Teknuro used Celigo as an integration layer to support this phased migration. The solution connected customer creation, B2B- and B2C-order flows, price lists, special pricing, stock, Akeneo PIM, SAP Business One, BigCommerce, and warehouse logistics.

The result was a scalable foundation for ERP and digital commerce, with cleaner and more reliable data streams between e-commerce, ERP, PIM, and warehouse operations.

Stepping away from AS/400 is rarely a simple replacement operation. Legacy ERP systems often contain years of business logic, operational workarounds, and process-specific data rules. Those who replace such systems too quickly put essential business processes at risk.

For Wegter Brands, the challenge was broader. ERP and e-commerce modernization had to take place simultaneously. The company moved from AS/400 to SAP Business One and from Shopware to BigCommerce, while critical commercial, product, and fulfillment processes had to be preserved.

The challenge consisted of four main parts

First, order-to-cash processes had to run uninterrupted. New customer forms had to create customer records in SAP Business One. Both B2B and B2C orders from BigCommerce had to be correctly processed in SAP. Price lists and special prices also had to remain accurate, because pricing errors can directly affect revenue, margin, and customer trust.

Second, Wegter Brands needed a reliable lifecycle for product information. Item data came from SAP and flowed into Akeneo, while category and brand data were managed in Akeneo and published to BigCommerce. Clear data ownership between SAP, Akeneo, and BigCommerce was required for that.

Third, stock data had to move from SAP Business One to BigCommerce, so online availability remained aligned with the stock levels in the ERP.

Fourth, warehouse logistics had to stay synchronized with the new ERP and e-commerce architecture. Orders, shipments, status updates, and external warehouse references had to move reliably between SAP Business One and the warehouse partner.

A simple migration or point-to-point integration would not have been sufficient. Wegter Brands needed a phased, connected operating model that could translate legacy processes into a modern system landscape without disrupting business continuity.

Teknuro used Celigo as an integration layer to support Wegter Brands' phased transition to a modern ERP and e-commerce landscape. Rather than approaching the project as a series of discrete system migrations, Teknuro first mapped the key business processes and designed the integrations around the way Wegter Brands actually worked.

Celigo became the central layer for transforming, validating, enriching, and routing data between SAP Business One, BigCommerce, Akeneo, and the warehouse partner. As a result, Wegter Brands could connect commercial, product, and logistics processes without building each system directly to the next one.

The order-to-cash processes were integrated across customer creation, B2B and B2C order processing, pricing, special pricing logic, and inventory synchronization. Customer forms could trigger new customer creation in SAP Business One, while orders from BigCommerce were routed to SAP for further processing. Price lists, special prices, and inventory data were synchronized between SAP Business One and BigCommerce to keep commercial data consistent across channels.

Product information management also became part of the connected model. Item data from SAP Business One were sent to Akeneo, while category and brand data from Akeneo were synchronized with BigCommerce. Product data could then be enriched across SAP, Akeneo, and BigCommerce, creating a more structured foundation for product information management within the company.

Warehouse logistics formed a key part of the solution. One integration flow sends every 10 minutes confirmed and open SAP order data to the warehouse partner. The flow retrieves relevant orders from SAP, filters out irrelevant document lines, enriches the order with warehouse channel logic based on SAP business partner data, and creates the order in the warehouse system.

Once the warehouse order is created, Celigo retrieves the warehouse reference and writes it back to SAP. This updates the SAP order status and links the SAP order to the external warehouse reference, ensuring both systems stay aligned.

A second logistics flow checks warehouse shipping data every 30 minutes. When an order is shipped, Celigo fetches the shipping details, track-and-trace information, and related order data. The flow then creates the necessary delivery and invoicing records in SAP. The flow includes branching logic to ignore orders that have not yet shipped and to process only the relevant shipping records.

By placing Celigo between SAP Business One, BigCommerce, Akeneo, and the warehouse partner, Teknuro created a structured and maintainable integration layer. This reduced migration risk, improved process reliability, and gave Wegter Brands a stronger foundation for future operational changes.

Wegter Brands moved from a fragmented existing system landscape to a modern, connected ERP and e-commerce environment. The aging AS/400 and Shopware landscape was modernized into an integrated ERP, PIM, and e-commerce environment around SAP Business One, Akeneo, and BigCommerce.

With Celigo as the central integration layer, mission-critical data now automatically flows between SAP Business One, BigCommerce, Akeneo, and the warehouse partner. Customer data, orders, prices, product information, stock updates, warehouse references, shipments, and invoices are synchronized and orchestrated across systems, instead of being processed through separate manual steps.

This gives Wegter Brands greater control, better visibility, and more reliable data about commercial, product, and logistics operations. Teams are less dependent on legacy ERP workflows, manual data entry, or isolated system checks. They work with more up-to-date information and can devote more attention to exception management, improved fulfilment quality, and support for growth.

The phased migration also protected continuity. Wegter Brands could transition to a modern IT landscape without disrupting daily order, product, stock, and warehouse processes.

The result is a scalable digital operating model: less reliance on legacy systems, fewer manual handoffs, better-synchronized data, and a central integration hub that supports further growth across ERP, e-commerce, product data, and warehouse operations.
